Infectious and Sexually Transmitted Diseases – Summary

Unit V focuses on major infectious diseases and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), providing essential knowledge about their causes, symptoms, transmission, and impact on public health. The unit begins with key infectious diseases such as meningitis, an inflammation of the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord, often caused by bacterial or viral infections. It also covers typhoid fever, a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water, and leprosy, a chronic infectious disease affecting the skin and nerves.

In addition, the unit discusses tuberculosis (TB), a serious airborne bacterial infection primarily affecting the lungs, and urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are common bacterial infections that can affect any part of the urinary system.

Moving on to sexually transmitted diseases, the unit includes AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) caused by the HIV virus, which attacks the immune system, making the body vulnerable to infections and certain cancers. It also covers syphilis and gonorrhea, both bacterial STDs that, if untreated, can lead to severe health complications.

At FirstHope, we provide BPharm notes that are topic-wise, easy to understand, and designed strictly as per the AKTU and Other Universities, hence designed according to PCI syllabus.
