Unit I: Antihistaminic and Anti-Neoplastic Agents – BPharma Notes Summary

This unit provides an in-depth understanding of antihistaminic agents and anti-neoplastic drugs, essential topics in medicinal chemistry.

Anti-histaminic Agents Notes

The unit begins with the study of histamine, its receptors (H₁ and H₂), and their distribution in the human body. It details the pharmacological role of H₁-antagonists, which are commonly used for allergies, motion sickness, and cold symptoms. Drugs covered include Diphenhydramine, Promethazine, Loratadine, Cetirizine, and others.

Next, the unit discusses H₂-antagonists like Cimetidine, Ranitidine, and Famotidine, which reduce gastric acid secretion and are widely used in ulcer treatment. It also introduces gastric proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) such as Omeprazole, Pantoprazole, and Lansoprazole, effective in treating acid-related disorders.

Anti-Neoplastic Agents

The second part of the unit covers anti-cancer drugs, categorized into several classes. These include alkylating agents (e.g., Cyclophosphamide, Melphalan), antimetabolites (e.g., Methotrexate, Fluorouracil), antibiotics (e.g., Dactinomycin, Doxorubicin), plant products (e.g., Vincristine, Etoposide), and miscellaneous agents like Cisplat

At FirstHope, we provide BPharm notes that are topic-wise, easy to understand, and designed strictly as per the AKTU and Other Universities, hence designed according to PCI syllabus.
