Summary of Unit III: Pharmacy, Medicinal Preparations, and Narcotic Regulations in India

Unit III explores three major pharmaceutical legislations essential for BPharma 5th semester students:

Pharmacy Act, 1948: Focuses on the objectives and definitions, establishment and functions of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), along with Education Regulations. It also explains the constitution and roles of State and Joint State Pharmacy Councils, procedures for registration of pharmacists, and outlines related offences and penalties.

Medicinal and Toilet Preparations Act, 1955: Covers the licensing, manufacture (in-bond and out-bond), and export of alcoholic medicinal preparations. It includes production of Ayurvedic, Homeopathic, and Patent & Proprietary preparations, along with offences and penalties applicable under the Act.

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985: Highlights its objectives, definitions, key authorities, and the Narcotic Consultative Committee. Also included are regulations for poppy cultivation, opium production, manufacture, sale, export, and the National Fund for Drug Abuse Control. The unit emphasizes prohibition and legal penalties for violations.

At FirstHope, we provide BPharm notes that are topic-wise, easy to understand, and designed strictly as per the AKTU and Other Universities, hence designed according to PCI syllabus.
